About Us

Our history

I once heard that “great ideas are born in the most difficult times,” and I can attest to that.

My name is Carmen Alvis, I am Venezuelan, and like many of my compatriots, I had to completely transform my life because of the political situation in my country. I want to share a bit of my story because when we understand where we come from, we better understand the mission and vision that guide us.

I arrived in the United States in 2018, to a country with a culture, language, and customs very different from my own. After having built a solid professional career, a stable life, and retirement plans, my husband and I had to reinvent ourselves from scratch.

My husband, Wilfredo Azócar, served for 32 years in the Ministry of Health in Venezuela. He has a degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resources and extensive academic training. Together, we embarked on a new path, taking on jobs we never imagined, such as working in a restaurant. Far from embarrassing us, those experiences were a great lesson in humility.

Years of Experience

For four years, I worked as a certified caregiver for seniors. It was demanding work, but profoundly humane. I came to understand how vulnerable life can be in old age and the importance of empathy and respect. However, after a physical injury that forced me to stop working for six months, I realized it was time for a change.

That’s when a dear friend inspired me with a brilliant idea: to open a family childcare program. Although I knew nothing about the field, I researched, studied, and met wonderful people who guided me. Obtaining my Family Child Care Provider license was a huge step, especially since it meant transforming the house I had always dreamed of. But today, I can say with certainty that it was one of the best decisions of my life.

In 2025, with a year of experience, I feel deeply grateful to God. I began my studies in Early Childhood Education at Urban College, where I earned my certification as a Lead Teacher and have accumulated over 150 hours of professional development. My husband also became a certified educational assistant, and together we form a team committed to children’s learning, safety, and well-being.

Working with children has been much more than a challenge; it has been a gift. Every smile, every milestone, and every new word reminds me why I chose this path.

Today, at Ireoyeo Family Child Care, we open our doors with love, faith, and purpose, offering each child a space where learning, growing, and feeling loved are paramount.

Our Mission

At Ireoyeo Family Child Care, our mission is to lay the foundation for holistic development in the early years of life, offering a warm, safe, and enriching environment where every child feels loved, valued, and capable.

We are inspired by the purpose of educating from the heart, guiding with respect, empathy, and patience, so that each child discovers their own pace, their voice, and their potential.

We believe that education begins with the first hugs, in the curiosity awakened by play, and in the authentic connection between the child, their family, and the educators.

Every day we work with commitment and dedication, preparing fresh, additive-free food, creating learning experiences based on the Montessori method in Spanish, and cultivating habits that shape confident, happy human beings with a love of learning.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build an educational community that inspires trust, belonging, and hope, where families find in us a true partner in raising and developing their children.

We dream of a program that grows not only in size but also in impact:

Shaping generations of children who are respectful, curious, and sensitive to the world around them.

Honoring our Latin American roots while embracing the cultural diversity of our community in Massachusetts.

Establishing ourselves as a model of quality in family-based childcare, where education, love, and faith intertwine every day.

Who leads Ireoyeo Family Child Care Program and why?

Carmen Mercedes Alvis Cadiz
Educator and Owner of the Program

The Ireoyeo Family Child Care Program stems from my personal and professional journey, as well as my deep commitment to children’s well-being and supporting families. During my time in Venezuela, I completed my university studies, an education that strengthened values such as responsibility, leadership, and a human touch, and laid the foundation for the discipline and commitment I apply to every aspect of this program.

I work closely with my husband, Wilfredo Azócar, who is a fundamental part of the childcare program’s daily operations. Wilfredo holds a degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resources, which he earned at university. He brings an organized, responsible, and compassionate perspective to the program. He is also certified by the Department of Early Childhood Education and Care (EEC) and is licensed as a childcare assistant for groups of up to six children, which strengthens the program’s structure, supervision, and safety.

Together, we form a committed, trained, and aligned family team with a shared purpose: to offer serious, stable, and high-quality childcare where every child is treated with respect and every family feels supported and heard.

Our work is based on ongoing training, strict adherence to EEC regulations, and personalized attention that prioritizes the safety, development, and peace of mind of families.

My passion for early childhood care and education has been built on service, commitment, and lived experience. I have one year of formal experience in childcare in the United States, complemented by prior experience as a volunteer in children’s homes and as a foster family alongside my husband.

These experiences strengthened the values that guide my daily work: empathy, patience, respect for each child’s story, and the creation of safe and nurturing environments. My focus is on providing responsible, structured, and personalized care, giving families confidence, open communication, and the peace of mind of knowing their children are in good hands.

Capacity and personalized attention

My family childcare program is licensed for a maximum of six children, allowing me to offer personalized, attentive, and high-quality care. This limited capacity fosters individual observation, respectful support, and the development of strong bonds, ensuring that each child receives the time, attention, and care they deserve.

I understand that choosing a childcare provider is one of the most important decisions a family makes. Therefore, I am committed to providing a safe and valued environment where children feel secure and cared for, and where families find trust, clear communication, and professionalism.

Professional Overview

My journey in early childhood care and education is deeply marked by vocation, service, and a commitment to the well-being of children and their families. Although I have one year of formal experience in childcare in the United States, my connection to this work began much earlier.

In my home country, I had the opportunity to volunteer in orphanages for abandoned children, an experience that transformed my understanding of childcare and reinforced my conviction that every child deserves love, protection, and emotional stability. Later, my husband and I became certified foster parents, opening our home to provide shelter, care, and support to children experiencing vulnerable situations.

These experiences strengthened fundamental values that guide my daily work today: empathy, patience, respect for each child’s story, and the importance of creating safe environments where they can develop with confidence.

During this past year, I have dedicated myself to providing a structured, nurturing, and safe space focused on the holistic development of children. My priority is that every family feels at ease knowing their children are in an environment where they are cared for responsibly, with individualized attention and deep respect.

More than just experience measured in years, I offer lived experience, ongoing training, and a genuine vocation for service.

Academic background and certifications

I am certified by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and have completed numerous early childhood education preparation courses focused on holistic child development, safety, emotional well-being, and best educational practices. Similarly, my assistant, Wilfredo Azócar, is EEC certified and has specific training in childcare, ensuring a qualified team aligned with Massachusetts state standards.

Furthermore, both my assistant and I have university degrees from Venezuela, providing a solid academic foundation that complements our practical experience and professional commitment. I am currently pursuing studies at Urban College of Boston, reaffirming my dedication to ongoing professional development, and I have completed a certification as a Lead Teacher, strengthening my pedagogical skills, educational leadership, and the quality of the program we offer families.
